Company History

John White & Son - a family business - is the oldest independent weighing company in the UK. The present Managing Director, Edwin White, is the eighth generation to be involved in the business since its foundation by his ancestor John White in 1715.
John White & Son started as a manufacturing business in the Fife town of Auchtermuchty. Our earliest products were beam scales and one made in 1715 has survived to this day. During the 19th century, we developed counter scales and weighing platforms. In the 20th century we expanded our range to include retail scales and pre-set weighers, from which the Cartomat checkweigher was developed. With changing technology, mechanical weighing machines were eventually phased out and the business moved into electronics.
From being one of the pioneers in electronic weighing in the 1970’s, we have continued to develop our technical expertise through a continuous programme of staff training and development and the wide range of products and services we now provide our customers is a testimony to this.
